In 2017 Chief Kirkpatrick received the Senior Officer Certification from the University of North Alabama and the North Alabama Police Chief's Association. In 2019 Chief Kirkpatrick received the Master Officer Certification. In 2022 Chief Kirkpatrick received the 40-hour Certificate of Achievement in Police Management from the Alabama Association of Chiefs of Police and The University Partnership of Alabama. In 2024 Chief Kirkpatrick was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Winston County E911 Communications District.  In 2024 Chief Kirkpatrick received the 80-hour Certificate of Achievement in Police Management from the Alabama Association of Chiefs of Police and The University Partnership of Alabama.

Chief Kirkpatrick has over 3000 hours of continuing education in various areas of Law Enforcement.
